Why Does the API Return 404 NOT_FOUND for a Domain That Exists?

The API returns a 404 NOT_FOUND error in this scenario when the requested domain is not associated with the authenticated account.

When you attempt to view a domain or modify web forwarding for a domain, the request returns 404 NOT_FOUND if that domain does not exist under the account associated with the credentials (API key or token) used for the request.

In other words, the API does not expose or operate on domains that are not owned or managed by the authenticated account, even if the domain is known to exist on the public internet.

To resolve this:

  • Confirm that the domain is actively managed under the authenticated account. You can do this by logging into your my.101domain.com account and review your Domains. You can also Export a List of Your Domains.

  • If the domain is in a different account, you must:

    • Use credentials for the correct 101domain account, or

    • Transfer the domain into your preferred 101domain account you are using for the API request.
