How to Transfer Out a Domain that has 101domain’s Trustee Service
Domains registered with 101domain’s Trustee Service cannot be transferred out until the trustee is removed and the registrant information is updated to your own or to your new registrar’s information. This is because the trustee service acts as a local presence or proxy, and the domain’s official ownership is under the trustee’s contact information—not your own. This guide explains why this is required and provides instructions to update ownership, remove the trustee, and successfully transfer your domain.
Note:
Fees and documents may apply for ownership updates or trustee removal, depending on the domain TLD extension. Please contact our support team for exact fees and documents required
If you do not have your own local contact, please contact your new registrar to provide you with their trustee information regarding the domain TLD extension.
For more details on the responsibilities and limitations of using a trustee, see our Trustee Service Agreement.
Why Is This Required?
Registry Rules: Many country-code domains require a local presence. The trustee service fulfills this requirement by listing a local contact as the registrant.
Transfer Restrictions: Registries require the domain’s official registrant (the trustee) to be removed before a transfer can proceed. This ensures the new registrar has accurate, up-to-date ownership information.
What Needs to Happen Before Transfer?
Ownership Update:
You must update the domain’s ownership details to your own information (or your new local contact, if required by the registry). This process removes the trustee as the official registrant.Trustee Service Removal:
Once the ownership update is complete and the trustee information is removed at the registry level, the domain can be transferred out to another registrar.
How to Remove the Trustee Service
Submit a support ticket to request an ownership update and trustee removal on your domain
Provide any required documentation to verify your eligibility as the new registrant.
Wait for confirmation that the trustee has been removed and your information is now listed as the registrant.
