Domain Status

During the Domain Name lifecycle from registration to renewal, your domain may enter any of these statuses. Read on to learn more about why your domain status has changed and what that status indicates.

Domain Status

What it Means

New

Your domain order has been placed but has not yet begun processing and is typically due to a payment issue. Please check the following:

  • Payment Not Received: We are still awaiting your payment.

  • Credit Card Declined: Your credit card payment was not successful.

  • Invalid Payment Information: The payment details you provided were incorrect or invalid.

To complete your order, please log in to your my.101domain account and make the payment by accessing your shopping cart or by locating the associated invoice to finalize payment.

To learn more about viewing your payment history, visit our article How to View Your Invoices and Payment History for a step by step instruction.

During this phase, you may also receive a request from us to complete an identity verification request and confirm your identity. This is because some registries require registrars, like 101domain, to verify a registrant's information to prevent fraud and ensure data accuracy.

This process is a common industry practice and is often mandated by ICANN for many top-level domains or due to country specific ccTLD guidelines. For more information on the Persona process, please see our article Identity Verification Using Persona with 101domain.

Processing

After you submit your domain order and all necessary documents are received, we begin processing the registration. While most gTLD registries use automated systems, many ccTLDs require manual review by our team and the registry, which may extend the activation time.

To find the estimated registration timeline for your specific TLD, check your order confirmation email or follow these steps:

  1. Visit 101domain.com.

  2. In the main search bar, enter the TLD you're interested in (e.g., .AI).

  3. Click Search.

  4. Scroll down to the Technical Information table on the results page to find the "Time to Register" section.

Documents

The domain requires documentation to fulfill the registration requirements.

There are three ways you can securely provide the necessary documents:

  • Login into your account: Use the option to upload the requested documents directly.

  • Email us: Forward the necessary documents to support@101domain.com.

  • Contact your representative: Send the documents directly to your dedicated account representative.

If you would like to learn more about the specific requirements of your TLD extension, follow these steps to visit our website and navigate to the specific extension documentation requirements:

  1. Visit 101domain.com.

  2. From the Find your name Search, enter the TLD extension you would like to inquire about (e.g., .AI).

  3. Click Search.

  4. Scroll down to the FAQ’s and check the section "Are there requirements, documents, or information needed for .[TLD]?".

Domains Submitted

101domain has submitted your domain name with supporting documentation and payment to the appropriate registry or authority for registration, renewal, or verification.

There is no action is needed from you unless you are notified otherwise, and the status will update to Active once processing is complete.

Pending Registry Approval

The domain you requested is now with the Registry, awaiting their final approval and activation. This means it's in a processing queue, and you typically don't need to do anything while the Registry completes its review.

If the Registry does require more information, it's usually for one of these reasons, and we'll let you know what steps you need to take:

  • WHOIS Contact Information: Your contact information is invalid, inaccurate, or incomplete.

  • Registry Action: The registry requires additional action or information.

  • Custom Name Servers: You selected custom name servers, and they are not responding.

Active

Your domain is now fully registered and ready for use. This means it has been successfully processed by the registry, your registration has been completed, and the domain is now live on the internet.

With an "Active" status, you can now:

  • Create and Manage Websites: Point your domain to a hosting provider to build and publish your website.

  • Set Up Email: Configure professional email addresses (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com).

  • Manage DNS Records: Change DNS settings to direct traffic to your website, email, and other online services.

This status confirms that you have full control and ownership of the domain for the duration of your registration period.

Expired

Your domain's registration period has passed without a completed and paid renewal. Because of this, the domain may no longer active and may stop functioning, including your website or email services.

The domain might still be available for renewal, but it's important to act quickly. If it's not renewed in a timely manner, it could be released and registered by another party.

To ensure your Domain Name stays active, you can set your domain name to Auto-Renew and minimize any loss or exposure for your business. Visit our article on Managing Your Domain Name Auto-Renewal Settings.

Pending Approval

Your domain is not currently active and is awaiting further action before it can be registered, renewed or restored. This status often occurs if a domain was not renewed during the standard grace or redemption periods.

To restore and renew your domain, the registry now requires both a restore fee and the standard renewal fee. You can find more details about these fees at What is a Redemption Fee?

Other reasons for a "Pending Approval" status may include:

  • Payment Flagged: Your payment was flagged for fraud and needs to be verified.

  • Registry Processing: The domain has been submitted to the registry and is awaiting their approval or activation.

  • Late Renewal: The renewal was paid after the deadline and is pending additional fees or registry action.

Pending Renewal

The domain renewal request has been sent to the registry and is currently awaiting confirmation and an update to the domain’s expiration date.

There is no action is needed from you unless you are notified otherwise, and the status will update to Active once the renewal is processed.
