Domain renewal timing and expiration date updates
When you renew your domain name, the updated expiration date may not appear immediately in your account. This article explains why this happens, what you should check in your 101domain Account Manager, and when to contact Support.
Processing times
-
The time it takes for a domain renewal to process and for the new expiration date to display depends on the domain extension and its registry:
-
gTLDs (e.g., .com, .net, .org):
Expiration dates typically update within minutes after a successful renewal. -
ccTLDs / international domains:
Updates may take minutes to several days (or longer), depending on registry rules and processing cycles.-
Some international registries do not allow early renewal. In those cases, your domain is placed in a renewal queue, and the expiration date will update at or near the renewal/expiration date, not immediately after payment.
-
-
Renew early: renew at least 7 days before expiration to avoid downtime. Domains renewed after they expire may not be renewable.
It is recommended to set your domain to auto-renew by logging into your Account Manager. Your default billing account will be charged 60 days before expiration for renewal fees.
What to check in your 101domain Account Manager
Use this quick checklist to confirm your renewal status:
-
Confirm the renewal payment
-
Check that your renewal order shows as paid in your Account Manager.
-
-
Review the “Paid Until” date
-
Go to the Domain Names tab and locate your domain.
-
Look for the Paid Until field, this is the date through which your domain is paid with 101domain. (details below).
-
This confirms we have received payment for renewal up to that date.
-
-
Compare Paid Until vs. Expiration
-
If Paid Until reflects the new term but Expiration has not yet changed, the domain is likely:
-
In the renewal queue, or
-
The renewal cannot be processed until a later date due to registry rules (for example, when early renewal is not allowed and the domain is queued until near expiry).
-
-
-
Allow time for processing (especially ccTLDs / international)
-
For many international TLDs and registries that renew at/near expiry, you may not see the updated expiration date until closer to the current expiration date.
-
Our system will not update the domain expiration date until the domain name is actually renewed with the registry.
-
Why you may still receive expiration notices
If the expiration date has not yet been updated in our system, you may continue to receive automated emails indicating that your domain is expiring.
-
These notifications are based on the current Expiration date on file, not the Paid Until date.
-
Once the registry renewal completes and our system updates the Expiration date, these notices will stop.
