Create A Custom URL for Your Google Workspace Applications
Creating a custom web address (URL) makes it easy for you to find your core Google Workspace applications including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Groups, Sites, and more.
For example, with a custom address, users can sign in to their Gmail inbox at mail.example.com instead of the longer default address mail.google.com/a/example.com. Or they can sign in to their Google Drive at drive.example.com, their Calendar at calendar.example.com, and so on.
When you purchase Google Workspace through 101domain we will automatically add the CNAME records for Gmail and Google Calendar to your domain name. However, there are settings in your Google Workspace Admin you must change in order to make these custom URLs work. If you don’t do these steps and try to use the custom domains you will receive a 404 error.
Steps
Sign in to your Google Workspace account at https://admin.google.com/
From the Admin console homepage, go to Account settings
Click the dropdown next to Custom URLs
If you have multiple domains, select the domain you want to update from the list (Optional)
Under a service URL, enter a prefix. Example prefixes for Google services include calendar, drive, mail, groups, and sites, but you can use whatever you like.
Click Save.
Follow the instructions to add a CNAME record for each service address you're customizing.
Open a new tab, and log into your 101domain account at https://my.101domain.com.
Click on the Domain Names tab.
Click on the domain name linked to your Google Workspace account.
Scroll down to the section labeled NAME SERVERS & RECORDS, and open Manage DNS Records.
To add a CNAME record to your domain's DNS records, enter the prefix, change the dropdown from “A” to “CNAME”, enter ghs.googlehosted.com. and click Add.
Go back to your tab with the Google Admin console open, and click I’ve completed these steps.
