How to Change Your Domain Validation Method for SSL Certificates
This article explains how to change the Domain Validation (DV) method for your SSL certificate in your 101domain account. You may want to change your validation method if your initial choice isn’t working or if you prefer a different approach.
Understanding Domain Validation Methods
When changing your validation method, you can choose from the following options:
Domain Validation (DNS) – Recommended
Create a CNAME record in your DNS settings with your nameserver provider. This is the easiest and most reliable method. After adding the DNS record, verification typically completes within 10–15 minutes.
Email Validation
Select an email address from a pre-approved list (such as admin@yourdomain.com).The Certificate Authority (Sectigo) will send a verification email to the address you select.
Respond to the email to confirm your request.
Once confirmed, your certificate will be issued within 10–15 minutes.
HTTP Validation
Download a special file provided during the process and upload it to the root directory of your website’s server. The system will check for this file via HTTP or HTTPS.
Verification is usually completed within 10–15 minutes after the file is uploaded.
Tip: If you encounter issues with one validation method, switching to another (such as DNS validation) can often resolve the problem quickly.
