Q: What is an automated 'Don't Think About It' Backup?
A: An automated 'Don't Think About It' backup is an automated backup that is taken of your server and websites to ensure redundancy in case of a critical server or website failure. This feature is available on all of our standard VPS and Dedicated Servers. This takes the guesswork out of managing your own backup schedule and storage locations. For added security, we still recommend enabling your own backup schedule using the Backup to Cloud Pro feature included with your server.
Q: What does it include?
VPS: Your VPS is automatically backed up daily, then exported, and replicated three times within the same data center. These backups are retained in the data center for 7 days. Additional weekly backups are taken on 101domain’s redundant backup servers and are retained for up to one month.
Dedicated Servers: Full backups are taken weekly on 101domain’s redundant backup servers with incremental backups taken daily. These backups are retained for up to one month.
Q: What doesn’t it include?
A: Restoring your subscription from a backup is a great way to fix a broken or compromised website, but we cannot guarantee that restoration from a backup will fix any associated website issues. You are still responsible for addressing any website issues that may arise after the subscription has been restored.
Q: How to request a backup?
A: Requests to restore your subscription from a backup that is stored on our servers must come from a support ticket within your https://my.101domain.com account. Q: What are the backup schedules?
VPS: The Automated Backup of your VPS is scheduled daily, on a rolling 7-day basis, exported and replicated three times within the same data center. Additional backups may be available from earlier dates up to 1 month.
Dedicated: Full backups are taken weekly with incremental backups taken daily. We will generally retain 1 month of backups.
Q: How does the restore process work?
VPS: You can choose to restore your subscription from an Automated Backup from the last 7 days, or from an earlier backup date on 101domain’s redundant backup servers. Once the date is chosen, our Customer Success Engineers will perform the restoration of your subscription from the backup. Once completed, the Customer Success Engineers will confirm the working state of the backup, and inform you of the completion in your support ticket.

Q: How long does the restore process take?
A: This is dependent on the amount of data on the subscription being restored and will generally take a few hours.
Q: Are there any fees to restore the subscription?
A: One free restoration per month is included. Contact us for options if more frequent restorations are necessary.
Q: Are there any limits or limitations?
A: If your subscription or website has been compromised, the backups are not guaranteed to be uncompromised. Restoring from an older backup will help in the case of a recent compromise, but the vulnerability would need to be addressed immediately after restoration. The backup schedule will generally permit a restoration from backup up to 1 month prior.
