Setting up Google Workspace Records

If you purchase Google Workspace from 101domain and link your domain, most of the records are added automatically. Linking Google Workspace to a domain using 101domain's name servers is relatively easy and this guide will help you walk through the process.  If you purchase Google Workspace through Google directly, this guide will help you set up the records for it.

A note on TTL, You will notice that in this guide, we leave the TTL value set to 6 hours, the default value for our name servers.

We do support lower TTL values if you expect to change the records in the near future, but for most scenarios, the TTL value is not important.

This guide will use the records found within the corresponding guides from Google:

Steps

  1. To start, ensure that you've added your domain name to your Google Workspace subscription. 

  2. Navigate to your 101domain account, click on Manage Name Servers, Choose your domain, and then choose, "I want to edit my name server records"

  3. Add your first record, the MX record. 

    1. At the top line, change the record type to MX

    2. Enter 1 for the weight/priority,

    3. For the Value, enter ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

    4. Click Save to finish adding the MX record.

  4. Repeat step 3 to add the remaining MX records found in the table below

  5. Add your SPF record to ensure your mail does not get flagged as spam

    1. At the top, change the record type to TXT

    2. Ensure the subdomain and value fields are empty

    3. In the value section, enter v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all

    4. Click Save to finish adding the SPF record.

  6. Add your CNAME records to easily get to your mail or calendar

    1. At the top, change the record type to CNAME

    2. Ensure the subdomain and value fields are empty

    3. In the subdomain section, enter mail

    4. In the value section, enter ghs.googlehosted.com

    5. Click Save to finish adding the CNAME record.

    6. Create your second CNAME record by changing the subdomain section to calendar

    7. Click Save to finish adding the second CNAME record.

  7. Return to your Google Workspace dashboard to get your verification record

    1. Upon logging in, click "Get Started" at the top to begin the process

    2. Click "Begin Verification"

    3. In the drop-down menu, scroll down to the bottom and choose "Other"

    4. Copy the verification TXT record

    5. Return to your 101domain account and navigate to your records

    6. Ensure the subdomain and value sections are blank

    7. Change the record type to TXT

    8. Paste in the record into the value section

    9. Click Save to finish adding the verification TXT record

  8. Click verify within your Google Workspace dashboard to complete the process
